Allow customers to select their preferred country and language while shopping on your store.

The localization settings let you control which selectors are displayed in your theme. The available countries, currencies, and languages are managed through Shopify’s Markets settings.

Country selector

Enable this setting to allow customers to select their country or region.

The country selector can also be used to let customers choose their preferred local currency when your store supports multiple currencies.

Tip: If you sell in multiple currencies, make sure the appropriate countries and currencies are configured in Shopify admin → Markets.

Country name

Display the country or region name in the country selector.

This setting is available when Country selector is enabled.

Country flag

Display the country flag alongside the selected country or region.

This setting is available when Country selector is enabled.

Language selector

Enable this setting to allow customers to select their preferred language.

The available languages are based on the languages you’ve added and published for your store and markets.

Setting up languages

Before languages can appear in the theme’s language selector, you need to add and publish them in Shopify.

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Languages.
2. Click Add language.
3. Select the language you want to add.
4. Add translations for your store content using Shopify Translate & Adapt or a compatible translation app.
5. Publish the language when your translations are ready.

If you have multiple markets and international domains configured, you can assign languages to specific markets from Settings → Markets → select a market → Domain / language.

Setting up currencies

Currencies are configured per market in Shopify.

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Markets.
2. Select the market you want to configure.
3. In the Currency section, click +.
4. Select the currency you want to use.
5. Configure the exchange rate and optional rounding settings.
6. Click Done, then Save.

Using the selectors

Once your languages, markets, and currencies are configured in Shopify, enable the corresponding selectors in the theme.

• Enable Country selector to let customers choose their country or region.
• Enable Country name to display the country name.
• Enable Country flag to display the country’s flag.
• Enable Language selector to let customers switch between available languages.

The selectors only display options that are available and configured in Shopify. The theme does not create or manage countries, currencies, or languages itself.
